Enabling and Disabling Services

NOTE: If you are in a country that is not affected by U.S. export restrictions on SSH encryption and have obtained an SSH client, we recommend disabling the Telnet service to avoid the possibility of logging into your server through a non-secure connection, as shown in the following example.

To enable or disable a service that is invoked through xinetd, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Service Control link below the Network Services menu.

A list of services appears, along with a description and current status.

  1. Click the name of the service you wish to enable or disable.

The current status of the service is displayed. For example, the following screen shot shows the Telnet service as being enabled:

If the service is currently enabled, you are given the option to disable it; if the service is currently disabled, you are given the option to enable it.

  1. Click the link to disable or enable the service.
