Users who have been given shell access to your server can be added to one or more of the following "special user groups." Users who are added to a special user group assume the privileges and responsibilities associated with that group.
SECURITY ALERT: It is critical that you do not give a user any of the following administration rights unless you trust that user completely. It is possible for such a user to gain additional access, cause damage to your server, or compromise its security.
sysadmin - Users in the sysadmin group are empowered to perform general system administration on your server, including user and process management and management of the filesystem as a whole. Sysadmins can also enable and disable network services that run from inetd.
ftpadmin - Users in the ftpadmin group are allowed to place files in the ftp root directory, thus making files available for download via anonymous FTP. Additionally, the FTP admin can create welcome messages that are displayed to anonymous FTP users.
pkgadmin - Users in the pkgadmin group can install software applications from the Software Application Library, and remove or reinstall packages that have been previously installed on your system.
mailadmin - Users in the mailadmin group can edit the configuration files related to your sendmail server, as well as start and stop your mail service.
webadmin - Users in the webadmin group are empowered to manage the Apache web server. This includes the ability to start and stop it, add new virtual hosts and Apache modules, and edit all of the Apache configuration files. These users do NOT have access to the main Web server logs.
The special user groups allow a user to perform administrative tasks on certain aspects of your server that would otherwise require root access. As the Administrative User, you are already a member of each of the special user groups.
